Dr. Fisher participates in the team teaching of several courses at UT-Austin and at Science Park, including GSBS 120144 (Science Park): Introduction to Pathology, GSBS 4.41.4 (Science Park): Basic Concepts in Tumor Biology, and PHR 2.390N (UT-Austin): Biochemical Toxicology.

The research in Dr. Fischer's laboratory is primarily concerned with elucidating the role of inflammatory processes in the tumor promotion stage of multistage skin carcinogenesis. The emphasis of this work is on mediators of inflammation, including arachidonic acid metabolites, cytokines and growth factors and reactive oxygen species. She is involved in projects to determine the regulation of several of these mediators, especially prostaglandins, at the molecular level and in projects to determine their biological function in normal and tumor tissue. This information will be used to design chemoprevention strategies.

Research Interests

Skin and prostate tumor development: role & regulation of arachidonic acid metabolism and transforming growth factor beta involvement; development of animal models and strategies for cancer prevention.
